Full-time Home Learning ProgramThis program option, also referred to as "Distance Education" or "DE", is designed to provide support for families that do not wish to participate in classroom-based activities, do not fit within the age range of the program, and/or want even greater flexibility in their learning experiences. Program ComponentsTeacher SupportTeachers meet with students and their families each month and connect through phone and e-mail to share ideas, make suggestions, and help find resources. Home LearningFamilies create rich learning opportunities for their children at home and in the community. Parents are free to approach home learning in the way that best suits the learning styles and interests of their child. There is a diversity of equally valued approaches to home learning in our program including unschooling, use of tutors, curriculum packages, mentorship and participation in high quality community programs. Families keep records (in a format discussed with the teacher) and portfolios of work and receive an allotment from the district for educational spending. Community ConnectionsOur learning community offers many opportunities for families in the program to participate in activities together. Family nights, workshops, and recreational field trips are organized and led by parents, and keep us connected throughout the year. Also see Responsibilities of Teachers, Parents, and Students |
